' The Minutes of the former Council being read.
The President acquainted the Council, that Copys of the Letters mentioned in the minutes of the last Council had been delivered to Dr Arbuthnot.
The Same also acquainted the Gentlemen Present that Dr Sharpe had intimated to him by desire of being Discharged from his taking care of the house, Repository and Library at St Andrews day next insuing or soon after he being obliged to give a months notice upon that account.
The Auditors of the Treasurers Accounts were according to the Statute in that Respect on the part of the Council proposed, Balloted for and Chosen Viz. Mr Hill, Mr Aston and Dr Stanley.
The President acquainted the Council that Dr Sloane had notifyed to him his desire of laying down his office as Secretary of the Royal Society at St Andrews day next being the Anniversary for Choosing Officers of the Royal Society.
A Petition of Mr Alban Thomas was presented and read in which he humbly petitioned to be entertained in the Society's Service in Mr Hunt's Place in taking care of the Society's Repository and Library etc For which he was Judged by the present Council to be well qualified but the number of Gentlemen present being few it was thought fitt to refer the determination to the next Council.
A Lease of the Royal Society's Sellar under the Repository to Mr Samuel Clements Cheesemonger for 7 years commencing from [blank] at the Rent of five pounds per annum was read sealed and delivered, and the duplicate lockt up in the Iron Chest.
A Testification or Certificate from the Royal Society of Dr Thorpe's having been Chosen and Admitted a Fellow of the Said Society November the 30th, 1705 was read and ordered to be sealed with the Common Seal of the Society which was accordingly Sealed Signed by the President and delivered to the Doctor.
An order to the Treasurer for the Payment of twenty pounds to Dr John Thorpe, in full to midsummer last was signed by the President. ' |
