' A bill of Charges expended by Mr Frewen the Solicitor in recovering Mr Kecks Legacy amounting to £23-15-4 was Allowed and ordered to be paid by the Treasurer.
The President observed that Mr Meade who was Council in the Chancery Suit about Mr Kecks Legacy had out of his Special kindness to the Society Generously refused to take any fees for his Attendance and Advice in the Said Causes, and that therefore it would be highly proper to express the Thanks of the Society for this great Civility.
Resolved that Dr Mead the Physician be desired to return the thanks of the Society for this favour.
The Report of the Committee appointed to inspect the State and Condition of the Library was read, And thanks were ordered to Mr Folkes and Dr Jurin and the rest of the Gentlemen who took the trouble of this Business for the Service of the Society.
It appearing by the Report of the Said committee That many of the Manuscripts as well as other Valuable Books were much out of Repair and in Danger of being Spoiled through want of new Binding. The Gentlemen of the Said Committee were desired to give directions for the Said Books to be new Bound or otherwise Secured.
The Council were informed that two large Manuscripts which were then upon the Table had been offered to Dr Mead for Sale by an unknown Person, but he finding they belonged to the Arundel Library had Stoped and Secured them for the Society.
Dr Mead was ordered Thanks for this Care.
The President paid into the Treasurers hands the Sum of Five Hundred forty Seaven Pounds and Ten Shillings being So much as he had received upon the Decree in Chauncery about Mr Kecks Legacy, a Memorandum of which is enteted in the minutes of the Council dated March 15th, 1721.
Mr Wollaston, Mr Hewer, Mr Alexander Monro, Dr Samuda, and Mr Jones were Seperately put to the Ballot for Candidates and were approved.
The Treasurer moved the Council to consider about the Clerks Security and resolve upon Such a Sum as might be Sufficient and reasonable, and after some debates it was resolved that the Security of a Bond of Six Hundred Pounds would be Sufficient and reasonable. Whereupon Mr Hauksbee being called in and the proposal being made he consented to it. And it was Ordered that Mr Frewen the Solicitor have directions to draw a Bond of Six Hundred Pounds accordingly.
