' Dr Lawrence Heister Professor of Anatomy and Botany at Helmsted, on of the Candidates for Election before the passing of the late Statute, was now put to the Ballot and approved.
The Case of the Members in Arrears of payment, who have neglected to comply with the Terms proposed to them, was taken into Consideration, in pursuance of an Order of last Council.
The Lists of the Defaulting Members being read over it was Resolved That a Suit shall be commenced next Term upon the Bonds of all Members in Arrear who have had due Notice of the Orders of the 3rd of February 1729 and have not complied or Signified their intention of complying with the Forms proposed therein.
Ordered That Notice of this Resolution be given to the Several Members in a Letter Signed by the Clerk in the following Terms.

It is Ordered by the Council of the Royal Society That the Bonds of all Such Persons as are in Arrear Shall be put in Suit unless discharged before the Next Term. Of this I am ordered to give you Notice and am your humble Servant.

Charles Taylor Esq, James Venables Esq, William Tempest Esq, John Churchill Wicksted Esq, Taylor White Esq, and Thomas White Esq.
Mr Gale undertook to Speak to Sir William Rillers concerning his Arrears, he having reason to think these had been a want of Some proper Notice or application to him.
Mr Jones for the Same reason undertook to Speak to Sir John Fortescue Aland.
Mr Hauksbee had directions to wait on Sir George Markham (to whom the Orders of February 3, 1729 for want of directions were never Sent) And was Ordered in the Name of the Council to make him an offer of the Benefit of the Terms proposed therein, by purchasing out his future payments and Arrears at one years Contribution as other Members in his circumstances have already done.
A Motion was made in Favour of Mr John Douglas the Surgeon the Author of that Method called the High Operation in Cutting for the Stone that he might be excused from his payments especially Since the benefit of this Invention to Mankind is now become so Notorious as to have procured to him a late mark of favour and distinction from the Lord Mayor and Court of Aldermen of the City of London.
The Question being put to the Ballot Whether Mr John Douglas Shall be excused from payments and have liberty to take up his Bond or Not it passt Nem: Contr: in the Affirmative.
Mr Hauksbee having reported Mr James Bradley's Name among those who have Ordered their Accompt to be made out to compleat their payments to the Terms Proposed
A Question was proposed Whether a Compliment Shall be paid or Not to the Reverend Mr James Bradley in discharging him from his future payments and in giving him liberty to take up his Bond Gratis in consideration of his usefull and Curious Discoveries and Inventions in Astronomy which redounded greatly to the Honour of the Society.
Which being put to the Ballot passt Nem: Contr: in the Affirmative. ' |
