Mr Charle Mason of Greenwich and Mr Jeremiah Dixon of Cockfield attended and signed an agreement, countersigned by the Vice President, for observing the Transit of Venus over the Sun on 6 June 1761, at Bencoolen [Bengkulu] in the Island of Sumatra [Indonesia]. [Agreement transcribed, including gratuity, money for provisions, incidental expenses and Letters of Credit for £100 to be provided]
Ordered after ballot; 1. that £30 each to be provided immediately to Messrs Mason and Dixon for their stores, and five guineas reimbursed Mr Dixon for his journey to London 2. £160 to be given to Mr Maskelyne on account |
