Minutes read of the last council meeting on the 29 August 1748.
The President acquainted the Council that Mr Professor Ward had returned the charters of the Society which had been delivered to him on the 18th February 1748.
Mentions a previous meeting of 10th August 1748 and the case of Reverend Doctor Bradley, his Majesties' Astronomer and the Lords of the Admiralty concerning the instruments wanted for the use of the Royal Observatory at Greenwich. It was found that some alterations in the petition had to be made in order to be more effective.
Copy of said petition and a list of the instruments required and their estimated value listed.
Mentions that Mr Watson had carried further electical experiment, with a view of discovering the velocity with which electricity is propagated. Mr Watson had spent the sum of £6 14s 10d, which the Council ordered to be paid back to him.
Mentions that two valuable works were going to be published by subrciption, one was ' The Travels of our late Worthy Member Captain Norden ', and the other ' A New Map of all the Constellations '. Both of which were recommended to the Council by the President. |
