Astronomer Royal reported on his successful discussions with Captain Cook as to the design of the wooden Observatory for the southern observation [details given]. Mr Maskelyne asked to go ahead with making the design immediately
Report requested from Mr Kirkby regarding the steps taken regarding Mr Salvador and Mr Felton, now in the Exchequer
Bonds of Dr Christopher Nugent, Mr Richard Penneck, Mr John Lodge and the Reverend Owen Manning presented by Charles Morton. Mr L'Epinasse's bond removed from iron chest and delivered to Mr Robertson
Ordered Mr Robertson to provide a wooden frame with casters for the iron chest
' Ordered that Mr Joseph Dymond be written to by the Secretary to come to town with all expedition. '
' Ordered that Mr Robertson deliver to Mr William Wales, the Variation Compass belonging to the Royal Society, and to take his receipt for it.
Ordered that the sum of £20 be advanced to Mr William Wales upon account, to provide some necessaries for his voyage; and that the sum of £50 per annum, also on account, be paid quarterly to his Wife during his absence; the two first quarters of which to be advanced to her, as soon as he is embarked for Hudson's Bay: And that the sum of £15 more be given him, as a present from the Society, for extra, and unforeseen expences during his absence; and that he do provide proper beds and bedding for himself and Mr Dymond, and bring the bill for the same to the next Council; And that the same sum allowed of £15 for extra expences be paid to Mr Joseph Dymond.
