TitlePhotographs of cloud chamber experiments by Charles Thomson Rees Wilson
Datec.1912-1914
DescriptionOriginally found with CW/A/11, this is a series of experiment photographs produced by Wilson. Most of the photographs are undated and not labelled, though a few do have captions on the reverse. The notebook does contain captions for photographs, but there is no clear way to match these up with the photographs themselves.

Some of these were reproduced in Wilson's 1912 paper, 'On an expansion apparatus for making visible the tracks of ionising particles in gases and some results obtained by its use', published in Proceedings of the Royal Society, Series A, volume 87, issue 595:

CW/D/16, which is captioned 'alpha rays from radium. Diffuse tracks absent, owing to the use of shutter', has been partially reproduced in close-up in the paper (plate 6, figures 2 and 3)
CW/D/38, which is captioned 'alpha rays from emanation', has been partially reproduced in close-up in the paper (plate 6, figure 4)
CW/D/53, which is captioned 'ionisation by x-rays. Positive and negative ions refracted by electrical field, before formation of the clouds', is reproduced in the paper (plate 8, figure 5). The published version appears to be somewhat clearer than this copy.
