Author of many important memoirs embodying discoveries in animal structure , eg, on a new organ in the Lycoridia (Chaetopoda), a new form of cell (Solenocytes), and new form of Nephridia in Polychaeta, a new genus of Oligochoeta living on the sea-shore at Weymouth (Verniculus), demonstration of the tritubercular character of the molars of Amphitherium, a fossil mammal of the Oolites, demonstration of the two ciliated funnels opening from the pericardium into the renal sacs in the Limpet (after prolonged contradictory statements by successive investigators), demonstration of the continuity of the hoemal and coelomic vessels in the Leech, theoretical conclusions as to the nature of nephridia and coelomic sacs and ducts (description and illustration of new Cephalopoda from the Indian Museum, Calcutta. His papers have been chiefly published in the Quarterly Journal Microscopical Science.' |
