| Citation | Author of many papers on the Pre-Cambrian, Cambrian, and Ordovician Rocks of North Wales. At Tremadoc, Arenig, Nantlle, he discovered the exact order and structure of these rocks, and compared them with those of typical localities such as Sweden, Portugal and Ireland, also visited and studied by himself. Has also made important contributions to knowledge of the tectonics of Snowdonia and other parts of North Wales. Has also thrown much new light on the detailed structure of the Yorkshire Coalfield, and during the War gave much help in the matter of refractories, iron-ores, etc, to the Steel Industry. |
