Title | Taylor, Sir Hugh Stott: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Professor Taylor is distinguished for his work in physical chemistry, and especially for his investigations into the nature of catalytic reactions. His earlier papers deal among other matters with the apparent catalytic activity of undissociated molecules in 'acid catalysis.' He then made extensive studies of the adsorption of gases by metallic and other catalytic agents, correlating the results with the chemical reactions which these agents could induce. He was led in the course of this work to put forward the now widely accepted theory that catalytic surfaces possess regions of differing activity (theory of active points). He has recently been occupied by problems connected with heat of adsorption, and the activation of adsorbed molecules. Among other papers, he has published interesting contributions to photo-chemistry, especially with reference to the phenomenon of photo-sensitisation |
