Title | Keen, Sir Bernard Augustus: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his investigations into the physical properties of the soil, particularly for his elucidation of its complex structure and its relationships to water. He has thereby opened up an important new branch of knowledge, connecting Physics, Meteorology and Botany, which, in addition to its scientific interest, has great practical agricultural value. At Rothamsted he has created an important research school from which over seventy scientific papers have been published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society, Faraday Society and the Journal of Agricultural Science, in addition to those intended for practical agriculturists. The new knowledge is summarised in his recent Monograph, 'The Physical Properties of the Soil.' |
