Title | Crew, Francis Albert Eley: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | Distinguished for his work in genetics and on the biology of sex and reproduction, in which subjects he has established an active school of research in Edinburgh. His work on, sex-reversal in Amphibia, in Birds and in Mammals has been an important contribution to modern conceptions of the nature of sex. Latterly, with his pupils, he has taken up the study of 'Drosophila', and has made Edinburgh the main centre in the British Isles for the study of this all-important material. In another line his recent critical repetition of McDougall's Lamarckian experiments is of outstanding interest to both geneticists and pychlolgists. Is at present President of the Genetical Society and Secretary of the 5th International Congress of Genetics. |
