Title | Turner, Eustace Ebenezer: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | Distinguished as an organic chemist. His work has been mainly concerned with the chemistry of compounds containing two benzene nuclei united either (a) directly as in diphenyl, (b) by an oxygen atom as in diphenyl ethers, or (c) by two atoms, eg, oxygen and arsenic as in phenoxarsine derivatives. The results obtained in the study of diphenyl derivatives have been of importance with reguard to the problem of hindered rotation and optical activity whilst the resolution of several substituted phenoxarsine-2-carboxylic acid gives strong support for the assumption that the phenoxarsine molecule is folded. |
