Citation | The first to use modern methods of growth analysis, to analyse leaf-area growth and to prove nutritional differences of cereal varieties. Invented Resistance Porometer and Diffusion Porometer. Has shown the unexpected potassium-respiration effect in plants and has developed our knowledge of mineral nutrition. Has initiated field studies in cotton showing striking interrelationship of factors, and (with Horne) has developed the 'radial advance' method for estimating fungal pathogenicity. Has shown the remarkable effect of intermittent light on stomata and is responsible for the first steps made in the physiological analysis of vernalisation. Has developed a large and flourishing school. |
