Title | Wallis, Sir Barnes Neville: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Mr Wallis is assistant Chief Designer, Messrs Vickers-Armstrong, and was formerly chief Engineer of the Airship Guarantee Company. Throughout his career as an engineer and designer, Mr Wallis has been responsible for many developments involving the breaking of entirely new ground. His scientific and mathematical equipment has enabled him to tackle new problems in a fundamental manner. His public work includes the design of the Airship R 100 on entirely novel principles and the equally novel geodetic design of the Wellington bomber. Much of Mr Wallis's original work has led to secret developments for war purposes. The results of his work are embodied in some 80 published and 23 secret patents, the majority of the former being granted also in the USA and Germany. |
