Title | Waddington, Conrad Hal: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | Dr. Waddington showed experimentally that the parts of developing avian and mammalian embryos determine one another's growth as they were known to do in amphibians. In joint work he studied the chemical nature of the evocator of neural differentiation, and the substances which can replace it. He has studied the normal metamorphosis of Drosophila, and the effect on it of many mutant genes, thus determining in considerable detail the part played by normal genes in controlling development. This work has been of equal importance for genetics and embryology, and a number of Dr. Waddington's pupils have followed it up. |
