Title | Chain, Sir Ernst Boris: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | (1)Has made valuable contributions to enzyme biochemistry viz. snake-venom nucleotidases, bacterial and testicular hyaluronidases, and lysozyme as well as to knowledge of phospholipins. (2) Was jointly responsible for initiating the investigations which disclosed fully the remarkable chemotherapeutic properties of penicillin. Played a large part in the early biochemical work on this labile substance and latterly in collaboration has greatly contributed to the chemical knowledge which has led to the purification and subsequent elucidation of the structure of penicillin.
