Title | Lack, David Lambert: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | Distinguished for his studies in animal behaviour, ecology and evolution. His researches, although mainly concerned with birds, are particularly notable for their wide biological significance rather than for their purely ornithological interest. In addition to his many papers (see list appended) he has published two important books: "The Life of the Robin," a monograph on the behaviour and ecology of a simple species based upon a mass of personal observations and field experiments, and "Darwin's Finches," a study of the finches of the Galapagos Islands which throws much light on the process of speciation and other aspects of evolution. |
