Citation | Bailey, Kenneth (Cambridge). Assistant Director of Research in the Department of Biochemistry, and Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge. Distinguished as a biochemist and particularly for his work on the proteins of the muscle fibril. Has studied the amino-acid composition of various myosins and of fibrinogen and other members of the k-m-e-f group of fibrous proteins, and has investigated the interactions of myosin and actin with each other and with adenosine triphosphate. Has isolated from muscle a remarkable new protein, tropomyosin, whose long molecules can form both submicroscopic filaments and large orthodox crystals, and has established its cyclic polypeptide nature and other properties pointing probably to the make-up of myosin itself. |
