| Description | Citation typed |
| Citation | Distinguished for his elucidation of problems of chemical constitution by the application on X-ray methods to crystals. He has determined the constitutions of organo-metallic compounds, phosphorous pentahalides, and metal complex halides, carbonyls and cyanides, shown the partial double bond character of the iron-carbon link in ferrocyanides, and has worked out the crystal structure of a number of molecular compounds of aromatic polynitrocompounds. He has made a unique discovery of a class of compounds having one molecule, often of normally gaseous material, enclosed by a molecular cage of another component, and has prepared stable compounds of this type with the inert gases argon and krypton and determined their structures. |
