Title | Pringle, John William Sutton: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his studies on the mechanical receptor organs in insects, notably the gyroscopic organs of equilibrium in Diptera. This work represents a very important contribution to knowledge; it has thrown new light on the mechanism of neuro-muscular coordination in insects, and on more general problems of animal behaviour. In addition, this candidate has made important contributions to the mechanism of excitation and contraction of the muscles of insects, particularly of the flight muscles in which his work indicates a new kind of muscular response. A list of publications is attached. |
