Title | Thode, Henry George: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Dr. Thode is distinguished for his work on the separation of isotopes. He has developed mass spectrometer apparatus for determining relative isotopic abundance with high precision. His work revealed significant variations in the relative abundance of the isotopes of boron, sulphur, and other elements. In addition to their significance in unravelling the geological history of the elements these differences affect the precise atomic weights. He has established an outstanding school of precise technique with mass spectrometers thus advancing the isotope ratio method of analysis in chemical problems. His recent work includes noteworthy contributions to studies of nuclear fission. |
