Citation | Demonstrated active dilatation of veins by internal pressure waves, and recognised its physiological significance. Followed excretion of foreign particles by respiratory tract and demonstrated protective action of healthy tract against their entry into alveoli. Was the first to use X-ray cinematography for solving physiological problems, and to demonstrate course of foetal circulation in intact animal and manners and times of functional closure of the special foetal channels. Author of A Monograph on Veins; joint author of The Foetal Circulation and of Studies of the Renal Circulation. Distinguished for his knowledge of the circulatory and respiratory systems and his contributions to the history of physiology. |
