Distinguished for his geological researches (stratigraphical, structural, petrological and geomorphological) in Central and Southern Africa, for his fundamental contributions to the tectonics of African Rift Valley structures and for his detailed researches into the problems of Ground Water Hydrology in the Tropics.
As first Director of Colonial Geological Surveys he has been responsible for the organization and direction of this centralized service, and has exerted an outstanding influence on the development of geology in British Overseas Territories. |
