Citation | Cytogeneticist and population geneticist. After some early work on cytological effects of radiation and on spiral structure of chromosomes he studied the evolution of sex chromosome mechanisms and of anomalous types of meiosis. His work on the chromosome cycles of Cecidomyidae has revealed the extremely aberrant chromosomal mechanisms of these insects. More recently he has studied the role played by chromosomal inversions in natural populations of grasshoppers, clarifying the influence of heterosis and epistatic interaction in the determination of viability. He is currently working on biometrical effects of inversions. His book "Animal Cytology and Evolution" examines the part played by the chromosomal mechanism itself in animal evolution. |
