| Citation | Distinguished for his work on the reactions and reactivities of free radicals by photochemical and other means; his contributions to the study of vinyl polymerisation, and for his extensive studies of the configuration of synthetic polypeptides. His later work, concerned with heterogenous polymerisation including trapped radicals, and the various reactions of polymer radicals in solution, has stimulated fresh interest in this field of chemical reactivity, as can also be said of his recent studies of the synthesis of polypeptides by polymerisation of N carboxy alpha amino acid anhydrides. (A classified list of 88 papers is attached). Bamford is also the co-author of two books dealing respectively with synthetic polypeptides and vinyl polymerisation. |
