Title | Kekwick, Ralph Ambrose: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his work on plasma proteins and physiochemical methods for their study and large-scale purification. His process of fractionation with ethyl ether has made available human plasma fractions with wide and successful clinical applications. These preparations include albumin, gamma globulin, thrombin, and for the first time, fibrinogen free from plasmin and plasminogen, and human antihaemophilic globulin with high functional activity. He has made important contributions to knowledge of normal and abnormal plasma proteins, antibody formation, and the thrombin-fibrinogen reaction, and his preparations have greatly assisted other workers in the same field. |
