Title | Glueckauf, Eugen: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Distinguished for his contributions to the theory of chromatography and ion exchange. Early work on micro-analysis of helium in substances irradiated with neutrons and gamma-rays led to analytical methods for helium in air involving the application of gas chromatography, apparently for the first time. Studies on the composition of the atmosphere and new developments in chromatography and ion exchange, including isotope separation followed. He was one of the first to express in physico-chemical terms the phenomena associated with solvent extraction of uranium and other electrolytes and has made valuable contributions to electrochemistry. Dr. Glueckauf has also been responsible for some notable developments in atomic energy technology. |
