Citation | Distinguished for advancing the science and practice of civil engineering by the design of heavy structures with special emphasis on bridges and highways. As principal bridge designer with Freeman Fox and Partners he has been intimately concerned with all the firm's bridge studies and projects including the Severn and Forth Bridges, Auckland Harbour Bridge and the Ganga Bridge, India. Since 1956 as a partner he has directed the design and supervised construction of an impressive list of major works including M2 Motorway, including the prestressed concrete Medway Bridge/ M5 Motorway, Avon Bridge and Almondsbury four level junction/ Brahmaputra Bridge, India/ Reconstruction of Grosvenor Railway Bridge (River Thames)/ Viaduct Overpasses at Bow, London and Soho, Birmingham |
