Citation | Noted for his work on the inhibition of plant viruses and other systems by purine and pyrimidine analogues, and for his work concerned with various aspects of plant virology and ribonucleic acids. He provided the first convincing evidence for the incorporation of an unnatural base into nucleic acids. He has made significant contributions concerning:- (i) the use of serological methods with plant viruses; (ii) the isolation and properties of minor non-infectious virus nucleoprotein particles; (iii) the replication of plant viruses; (iv) the relationship between virus replication and disease symptoms. He has established a new and active department of Cell Biology in Auckland. |
