Citation | Professor Ash, after an extremely good performance as a student at Imperial College has since had experience both in industrial and academic spheres of work. His field of study has been the general area of applied physics/electronics and he is well known to experts for his contributions to the study, and invention, of devices based on wave interactions. He has published over 50 papers covering new work on collision phenomena in plasmas, the effect of carriers in electron optics and his contributions to the study of electromagnetic slow wave circuits for both microwave vacuum and semiconductor devices are well known. More recently he has made initial contributions to the study of the properties of acoustic waves in signalling processing and has also described a technique for obtaining images with a resolution well above that of the Abbe criterion. Professor Ash's contributions have been widely recognised by professional institutions in both this country and abroad. |
