Description | Citation typed |
Citation | Professor Wray has made extensive contributions to research and design in the field of textile engineering. In the field of yarn manufactured from staples and continuous filaments he has provided an understanding and improvements in the production of false-twist textured yarns, developed a new method for the manufacture of textured yarns, and greatly improved the process of air-textured continuous filament yarns. He has been responsible for the initial concept, design and development of the Locstitch Pile-Fabric machine which has been sold world-wide. This machine has been further developed for narrow-fabric weaving, and it has led to a process which has doubled the speed of current warp-knitting techniques. A study of the dynamics of knitting machinery has resulted in a significant increase in speed of weft-knitting machines. This work has been backed by fundamental studies of mechanism synthesis leading to the replacement of complex conjugate cam systems by a simple mechanical linkage, and other studies have been made of vibration and noise in textile machinery. |
