Citation | Professor Williams has made many valuable contribution to our understanding of the engineering properties of polymers over the past twenty years. He has applied the principles of mechanics to polymers and in particular has made outstanding contributions to fracture mechanics. His work on the characteristics of crack initiation in both brittle and ductile fractures, visco-elastic slow crack growth, environmental crack growth, fatigue and impact testing have very significantly contributed to our ability to apply polymers in real engineering situations. His work on deformation and processing has also been of basic importance in machinery design.
He has been widely consulted by industry in America and Europe and his text-books "Stress Analysis of Polymers" and "Fracture Mechanics of Polymers" are internationally recognised. |
