Title | Brown, John Milton: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Word processed form. |
Citation | J.M. Brown is a high-resolution spectroscopist with a special interest in the study of short-lived free radicals. He is equally strong in theoretical and experimental aspects of this field and has a well-deserved international reputation for his ability to interpret the complicated spectra involved. His work includes the solution of well-known spectroscopic problems such as the measurement of the lambda-doubling frequencies of the CH radical and the analysis of the electronic spectrum of FeH. In addition, he has made the first spectroscopic observation of several novel species such as NiCl2, InOH and FeH2. He is particularly well-known for his work on the development of the effective Hamiltonian, a central tool for the understanding of molecular species. |
