Title | Barber, James: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Description | Citation from candidates book (different to certificate). |
Citation | Professor James Barber is a leading international scientist, distinguished by his many seminal contributions to photosynthesis research, particularly to the understanding of structural and functional properties of photosystems and the chloroplast thylakoid membrane in which these multisubunit complexes are embedded. His outstanding work has culminated in the discovery of new types of light harvesting/reaction centre supercomplexes of global significance and the determination of the high resolution structure of photosystem two so revealing the molecular basis of the water splitting/oxygen evolving reaction of photosynthesis. In 2002 he was awarded The Flintoff Medal of the Royal Society of Chemistry. |
