Citation | Professor Blake is distinguished for his numerous pioneering achievements in image analysis. The technique for visual reconstruction that he invented twenty years ago remains the most powerful technique for reconstructing surfaces from scattered data of different types. His work on computing lightness, a basic aspect both of colour vision and of infrared image analysis, established a new level of performance and remains the standard. He invented the condensation technique for tracking and simultaneously learning visual motion. Blake's contributions include entirely novel techniques to plan collision-free trajectories of a robot, and to plan grasps of a multifingered robotic end-effector. His work is characterised by a depth of mathematical analysis allied to real-time computation that has established him as the leading image analysis researcher of his generation. |
