Citation | Professor Collinge has made fundamental contributions to understanding the aetiology of neurodegenerative disease, in particular the molecular basis of prion propagation and strain diversity, a subject of considerable biological as well as public health interest, and has applied these advances to clinical medicine. His work defining the molecular basis of prion strains demonstrated that new variant CJD is caused by BSE, and his studies of the structural biology of prion proteins provide a basis for the development of rational therapeutics. |
