Citation | Anthony Pearson started with pioneering developments in fluid mechanics - the first asymptotic analysis of viscous flow past a cylinder, a rapid-distortion theory of turbulence and studies of Marongoni convection and the instability of flow under rollers. He then provided a comprehensive study of flow processes in the polymer industry, including the draw-resonance of spinning fibres, tubular-film blowing, and non-isothermal injection molding. Finally working inside the oil industry, he provided the scientific leadership, rigour and insight in the design of hydro-fracturing, analyses of two new commercial devices for measuring multi-phase flows, and understanding of the build-up of filter-cakes during drilling. |
