Title | Hanski, Ilkka Aulis: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Citation | Professor Hanski has worked in population and community ecology and conservation biology since the early 1980s. He has made outstanding contributions to the study of population regulation, cyclic population dynamics, and the mechanisms of coexistence in communities. His research has been instrumental in the development of metapopulation biology, an important branch of biology with great significance for conservation and management. His long-term and large-scale field research project on metapopulation biology is the most important model system in spatial ecology and is one of the best examples of how theoretical work can be effectively linked with empirical studies in ecology. |
