Citation | James Collier is an outstanding example of a physicist who applied his fundamental knowledge of radio and chip design to create the world's first single chip Bluetooth device incorporating both a 2.4GHZ radio and a baseband processor. This was deemed impossible at the time as the clock of the baseband processor would create massive interference with the sensitive radio on the same piece of silicon. He beat leading Bluetooth suppliers, including Ericson, the inventor of Bluetooth, to a single chip implementation at his start up, Cambridge Silicon Radio, now a billion dollar company which dominates the market for Bluetooth headsets. |
