His pioneering research in the Arctic resulted in many highly-significant discoveries on long-term environmental and climatic change in these sensitive ecosystems. Smol is recognized for his prolific and diverse limnological research, his role in leading a large group of highly-successful scientists, and for his tireless efforts in bringing his socially-important scientific conclusions on climatic and environmental change to public attention. |
