Citation | Professor Stephens is a leading atmospheric physicist of his generation. His contributions to advancing our understanding of the complex interactions that define the Earth's energy budget are notable. He has a prodigious record of publications, many of which are landmark studies. He has delivered radical breakthroughs in remote sensing from space, delivering major advances in understanding radiative transfer, cloud microphysics, atmospheric convection and precipitation formation. His research bridges models and observations, and processes at the local scale within the global dynamical climate system. He is one of very few scientists in atmospheric science that can truly make that claim. |
