Citation | Tim Behrens investigates how our brains learn and represent knowledge to support complex flexible behaviour. He uses mathematical models to synthesise results across species and across the scales of neurons, systems and behaviour. He has shown how neurons renowned for representing spatial variables can also represent non-spatial knowledge. He has identified fundamental computational roles for grid cells (with Alexandra Constantinescu and Jill O'Reilly), place cell 'replay' (with Yunzhe Liu, Zeb Kurth-Nelson and Ray Dolan), and shown how the hippocampus supports relational processing (with James Whittington). He has also developed widely used approaches for noninvasive measurement of brain connectivity. |
