Citation | Bennett's pioneering studies on the transport and role of the plant hormone auxin led to the discovery of AUX1 the first auxin transport protein described in plants. He has also played a critical role elucidating how auxin and other hormones control root growth by demonstrating that auxin, abscisic acid and gibberellin independently target epidermal, cortical and endodermal tissues, respectively. Bennett's developmental studies have been foundational to understanding how auxin controls lateral root initiation, morphogenesis, emergence and adaptive responses. Bennett recently pioneered microCT imaging of root development in soil, revealing environmental signals like water profoundly affect root architecture. |
