TitleHolness, Marian Barbara: certificate of election to the Royal Society
Date14 April 2020
DescriptionCertificate endorsing election of Marian Holness as a Fellow of the Royal Society. Includes personal details of the elected Fellow, citaion giving the reasons for election, and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton.
CitationMarian Holness has made substantive advances in the application of quantitative textural information to petrology. She has determined the key controls on mineral dihedral angles and used observations of these to answer key questions on the nature of porosity in metamorphic rocks and on processes in magma chambers. More recently she has successfully developed these methods to understand the evolution of magma chambers. A whole series of novel and painstaking studies on exhumed cumulate rocks have constrained the structure of melt-crystal cumulate zones and convective processes in magma chambers, processes which previously have only been the subject of model speculation.
