Date | 14 April 2020 |
Description | Certificate endorsing election of Nigel Scrutton as a Fellow of the Royal Society. Includes personal details of the elected Fellow, citaion giving the reasons for election, and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | Nigel Scrutton has made major contributions to studies of enzyme structures and mechanisms. His ambitious and wide-ranging interdisciplinary approaches have exploited the development, use and integration of multiple timeresolved spectroscopies, structural biology, computational simulations and theory. He has elucidated new mechanisms for biological electron and hydrogen transfer, discovered new cofactors, and emphasized the role of dynamics in catalytic cycle chemistry, substrate/product binding, and drug/small molecule interactions. His work has focused on both fundamental and applied aspects of biological catalysis, which has advanced understanding and exploitation of enzyme action in human health and disease, and the emerging bioeconomy. |
