CitationProfessor Turner is noted for his pioneering research on the directed evolution of enzymes and whole cells to generate novel biocatalysts for applications in stereoselective synthesis. Particularly for his work on a wide range of redox enzymes including flavin dependent oxidases (monoamine oxidase, galactose oxidase) and P450 monooxygenases, including the discovery and development of a new catalytically self-sufficient P450 protein scaffold; and the application of these engineered enzymes and biocatalysts for the preparative synthesis of biologically active target molecules and therapeutic medicines including the pharmaceutical drug telaprevir which is currently used in the treatment of hepatitis C.
