Title | Feringa, Bernard 'Ben' Lucas: certificate of election to the Royal Society |
Date | 14 April 2020 |
Description | Certificate endorsing election of Ben Feringa as a Foreign Member of the Royal Society, including personal details of the elected Foreign Member and citation giving the reasons for election and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | Professor Ben Feringa is distinguished for his research towards dynamic molecular systems including the discovery of the first light-driven rotary molecular motor. The focus is on molecular nanoscience, novel responsive materials and photo-pharma exploring biohybrid systems, self-assembly, molecular switches and motors. His research embraces development (and chemical biology applications) of novel stereoselective synthesis methods and asymmetric catalysis. Chirality is a leading theme and over the years a unique and broad expertise in fundamental aspects of stereochemistry has been acquired including chiroptical phenomena, chiral amplification and origin of chirality. Professor Feringa was a co-recipient of the 2016 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. |
