Date | 21 April 2022 |
Description | Certificate endorsing election of Rachael Wood as a Fellow of the Royal Society. Includes personal details of the elected Fellow, citation giving the reasons for election, and names of proposers. Signed by the Executive Director of the Royal Society, Julie Maxton. |
Citation | Rachel Wood is a pioneering palaeobiologist and sedimentologist who has made fundamental contributions to our understanding of the origin and evolution of reef ecosystems, the nature and geological record of carbonate depositional systems, the Ediacaran-Cambrian rise of animals and the origins of biomineralization. She integrates field-based observations and geochemical data with modelling to analyse and interpret these pivotal transitions in the earth system. Her research has revealed the non-uniformitarian nature of ancient reef ecosystems, the complex extrinsic and intrinsic controls on their ecology, and the feedbacks that drive evolutionary innovation and environmental change. |
