He was born at Cologne & was at School with Adenauer, whom he knew well. During the Nazi regime he was one of the few showed great courage. Four of his 5 sons were killed during the war, the youngest during the last days. When after a long time this was confirmed, his wife collapsed and died. Later on he married again. His second wife is much younger than he is and was rather a daughter to him and his frst wife. She rescued them from Breslau when conditions there were desperate. They have a son aged about 7". |
